While I am not at liberty to divulge where they are, suffice to say that they
are indeed safe after having to be moved in the middle of the night due to
harassment of the family that had her. By looking at the photos, it appeared
that she was in an outdoor kennel run in less than desirable circumstances. We
are hoping that she will be moving one more time to a different rescue that is
experienced in the care of a GSD dam and newborns. If not, at least she is out
of that "shelter" (I use the term loosely).
I want to thank everyone for their unflagging support in this situation. This
poor animal was in a dogloo in a FILTHY concrete run with newborn babies. I
would like to say that this is not a common occurrence; but we all know better.
This is the second pregnant GSD in the last few weeks. Had it not been for the
high profile of her tormentor, she may have gone unnoticed. Please take the
time to visit our website and go to our Forum section. Click on "Urgents" and
see how many of these animals are facing atrocious fates in the facilities that
are built to care for them. These are not all BYB bred dogs, as evidenced by
the two former show dogs that we recently found in an Ohio shelter; I believe
one competed at the National last year! Lynda Workman recently adopted out a
Cech import with a tattoo who was trained in German...Remington, who was
adopted by Sue Friguiletti out of a shelter in Virginia (he had been tied with
a logging chain and was thoroughly neglected...he was
not even a year old) was an obviously well bred GSD and judging by his
floating gait, possibly from American show lines. There have been other
incidences where members of this list who through NO fault of their own, have
had a dog that they bred find its way into a shelter. People are not always
wont to contact the breeder when they no longer want the dog; it is sometimes a
spur of the moment decision and off Fido goes to the pound. In the current
foreclosure market, many people are simply moving away and abandoning the dogs
to an uncertain fate! Sarah was one of those dogs...left alone in a house with
an elderly beagle and a cat...waiting for the owner who would never return. She
is in need of a forever home and is in foster in Ohio.

This is our breed....this is the breed that has given us everything they have.
They have put their lives on the line to protect us, guide us, and give a final
dignity to those who were lost at 9/11. They stand ready to console us when
life hands us tragedies and keep our confidences when we need a shoulder to cry
on.
I had previously posted that there were 14,000 GSDs in kill facilities
throughout the U.S. I stand corrected by one of my Board members...the number
was
14,000 in ONE DAY. This is compliments of Petfinder who keeps statistics on
this. Even given the possibility that not all were purebred, the number is too
high.
As always, I want to thank this list for allowing us to continue posting GSDs
who are in dire straights. Without your assistance, so many more lives would
have been lost. I will update everyone with information about this little
family as soon as it becomes available via this list.
