Hi All,
In the almost 19 years I have shown dogs, I dont
recall ever pulling a dog from a group except twice:
(1)the weekend my father died and (2) my dog injured
itself in the crate and pulled out an entire toenail
freakishly before the herding group.
Now, admitedly, there are times where i would love to
leave. Usually, it's on a Sunday and the terrier,
working or herding group is dead last and I finished
breed judging at 9:30 am.
It shows disrespect to the judge who gave you the
breed. Im also very leery of pulling entries too. I am
very sensitive to provisional judges who need to "just
judge that one dog!". Usually, if I have to mark a dog
absent becasue its a single point entry and the dog
only needs majors, I offer an explanation to the judge
discreetly.
Also, this is my profession. NO show, no check, which
means, NO EAT.. not a good thing! If it means staying
a few extra hours, then so be it, as thats why I am
paid. Luckily, I usually bring an extra dog to "work
on" so the time passes rather quickly!
