The problem is that the members of the board who run things feel that the
club is superior to all others, that people should be honored to be able to
join, that conformation is the only thing that matters, that we must
continue to use the same STUPID one year at a time planning for the
National, and that since they have gotten the power they actually are
smarter than all others.
The truth is that they need to do:
1. Create standing committees for all the various activities GSDs are used
in.Currently they are used to try to set up their part of the National in
under 6 months whch is hard to do right.Instead have them primarily point
towards educating the public about the utility of our breed and promoting
the use of GSDs in various activities. I do not know how many people think
they have to get a Border Collie or Golden to do Agility or Obedience.
Where is our club's PR letting them know ours can do it?
2. Plan the Nationals at least 3 years in advance so all parts can be
properly set up and promoted. That also allows for some fund raising.
2. Realize that it is not all about CONFORMATION SHOWING. Until we change
the style of handling so normal folks can handle their own dogs, there will
be fewer and fewer conformation entries. The club needs to let every owner
of a GSD know that we respect them and their dogs and encourage them to
take part in whatever activity interests them.
3. Use the Review as a PR tool. Right now it is all conformation except for
the one performance issue. I show it to people and they frankly do not
care. Reach out to the public.
4. When those efforts take effect and the properly run performance events
are successful be happy and don't kick them in the teeth because "their
dogs are pets".
But that is what I have been saying for so many years and I have decided
that my head does not need the brick wall any longer.

that happened at the BOD meeting that you didn't know about! Imagine what
that list would look like if I had waited another week!, maybe I'll put out
a top ten list of things the BOD should have done... It may sound like many
are jumping down the BOD's throats..... That's exactly what we're doing,
and as Terry said, it won't make a Nichols worth of difference... Watching
men's beach volleyball, for some unknown reason I don't seem to be as
interested! lol. FB
