AKC Political Action Committee • AKC Canine Legislative Support Fund

Another election year is upon us, and the 2012 campaign season is in
full swing. Today, we face unprecedented challenges to our rights to
own, breed, and exhibit our beloved dogs. With more radical threats on
the horizon, I believe no election cycle has ever been more important.
Participation by club members is vital to fighting back against the
vast financial resources of the animal rights movement. In 2011 the
AKC PAC received only $6,662 in contributions from members of AKC-
affiliated clubs. That's an average of only five cents per club
member! I know we can do better.
As your club's corresponding secretary, your assistance is crucial. I
hope that I can personally count on you to encourage your club to meet
the goals of our new Club Presidents Challenge. Right about now, the
president of your club is receiving a letter that challenges them to
obtain the support of your club members in raising modest funds for
the AKC PAC and the Canine Legislative Support Fund. I ask for your
support in helping them meet their goals.
There are two parts to the challenge.
• I am challenging your club's president to secure at least $200 from
your club members for the AKC Political Action Committee (AKC PAC).
Even a small donation to the AKC PAC offers club members the
opportunity to financially support candidates who will protect our
rights. The AKC PAC also delivers unsurpassed value to contributors by
using 100% of their contributions to support dog-friendly candidates
in critical races. You might also suggest designating all or a portion
of your club's annual dues to the PAC. This would comply with the law
while providing an easy way for members to support the PAC.
• I further challenge your club's president to secure at least $300
for the AKC Canine Legislative Support Fund (CLSF). Contributions to
the CLSF can come from a club's treasury. All money contributed to
this fund helps to defray the AKC's costs in supporting legislation,
securing formal representation in Congress and statehouses, and
educating legislators and the public about responsible and fair
policies for dog breeding and ownership.
Our goal is to achieve 100% club participation. If we are successful,
your club will be part of raising over $1,000,000 for the AKC PAC and
the CLSF, making them real forces for protecting dogs in the United
States.
We will report results of the Club Presidents Challenge and keep you
informed on how your club's money is being used. This long-term
initiative will help assure that the American Kennel Club and our
5000+ clubs meet today's challenges with the same vigor as our radical
opponents.
Encourage your club's president to meet this challenge by July 31, and
your leadership will help position the AKC to influence the political
process better than it ever has before. I know I can count on your
help. I look forward to reporting that your leadership helped secure a
strong political future for responsible dog breeders and owners.
