I would add:
 

Only believe 1/4 of what you read on the List. 
 
In all litters only two to three puppies are top quality.
 
14% of all breeding give you what you expect.
 
7% of litters born in this country produce champion quality.
 
76% of all Select animals will produce a champion.
 
Remember 83% of all statistics are made up.

A  litter is only as good as its least puppy...so take into consideration   
the health and structure of the sire & dam's siblings and 1/2   siblings.

Aspire to cookie-cutter litters...only those dogs will  breed "true".   (If 
you see a hodge-podge in the whelping box  and keep one back, that's what  
you'll see next go  round).

Don't breed to compensate for a fault.  (You can't breed  a small dog  to a 
large dog and expect medium size dogs).  

The last isn't necessarily a "breeding principle" but it  flows....Have  
outstanding repro vets, understand all of the  science and technology 
available  
and use it to insure pregnancy  and maximize litter size and health.  Learn 
 
the best methods  to care for whelps.

Oppenheimer (1971)  
Thought the âlistâ might  find  interesting.  Here  goes.  Offer your own
suggestion to the list.   





1   Donât make use of  indiscriminating  outcrosses 

2   Donât line breed  just for the sake of line  breeding

3   Listen to  advise from successful breeders  

4   Donât believe  the clichÃ© about the brother or sister of  the great Ch
being just  as good to breed from.

5   Donât  credit your dogs  with virtues they donât possess 

6   Donât  breed from  mediocrities 

7   Donât assess the worth of a stud   dog by his inferior progeny. All good
stud dogs can produce rubbish  at  time. 

8   Donât allow personal feelings to  influence your  choice of a stud dog. 

9   Donât allow  admiration of a stud  dog blind you to his  faults.

10   Donât mate together animals  which share  the same fault 

11   Donât forget it is the whole  dog  that matters 

12   Donât be frightened of breeding  from  animals that have obvious 
faults,
so long as they have  compensating  virtures 

13   Donât mate together  non-complementary types  

14   Donât forget the  necessity to preserve head quality  

15   Donât forget  that substance plus quality should be one  of your aims  

16   Donât be satisfied with anything but the   best.  

17   The second best is never good  enough.  

18   An ability to recognize type at a  glance is a breederâs  greatest 
gift. 

19   Ask  the successful breeders to explain  this subject â thereâs no  
other
way of learning. 

20    Donât ever try to  decry a great dog.  A thing of beauty is not only  
a
joy  forever, but a great dog 

should be a  source of aesthetic pride  & pleasure to all true lovers of
the breed.
