Reabsorbed litters are usually due to low progesterone level during pregnancy.  
The pregnancy cannot be maintained unless the progesterone level stays up.  
Many breeders, of various breeds, are having to test the progesterone level 
during pregnancy and supplementing as needed.

Another thing to check is the thyroid level.  Bitches who fail to swell during 
their season can be low in thyroid.  Also, failure to conceive and carry a 
liiter can be due to low thyroid.  Now, I am not talking about low thyroid as 
in below the normal range.   My repro vet likes to see 2.0 or higher in the 
breeding bitch.

 Out here on the west coast, I have not heard that much about  
 problems with dogs that won't breed.  To date, my stud dog has  
 produced puppies from AIs, TCIs, surgical implants using shipped  
 fresh semen  and natural breedings....all done for various reasons.  
 I do required progesterone testing on the bitches that come to him  
 along with the other tests. And not the in house progesterone  
 testing.  Recently, a bitch came to be bred and the progesterone  
 tests  showed that she was not ready to breed until the 19th day!   
 Before she had been successfully bred on the 11th day.  My vet said  
 everything looked good so we will see if she conceives based on her  
 progesterone level.

 Yes, some of the bitches have missed but the vast majority have had  
 puppies.  On the other hand, when breeding one of my bitches, I have  
 not had good luck with using frozen semen that has been shipped to  
 me and know several people who also have not had good luck using  
 frozen.

 One issue I do have is breeding a stud artificially because he can  
 not physically do the job.  For example, breeding a dog that has  
 such bad DM or structural issues that he physically can not do it.   
 That makes me crazy!!!!

 I have experienced & heard a lot about bitches reabsorbing litters.   
 The repro vet that I use told me that from the seminars she attends  
 across the US, the repro vets are seeing an unusual amount of  
 bitches reabsorbing litters. This is not breed specific so they are  
 thinking environmental issues.
