The clubs can write individual long letters expressing our responses and have
them read at this meeting. A person can carry our messages for any club who
does .not have a representative to attend. After an hour of our written voices
maybe they will realize how much the GSDCA means to us and how we feel violated.
Once upon a time there was an award called the Pacific Coast Victor or
something like that. It was a REALLY big win. As a National win overshadowed
this award it is a bit tarnished. Maybe it is time to bring this or another
title for those of us who are frustrated by the move from Reno.

Here is the reply I sent:
We have no members wiling and able to travel that far again and again. We
had a bunch who couldn't wait for Reno 2017 to get here to exhibit and
watch. As of right now the club is paying dues only because we are forced
to do so to hold our events. That's sad when you think about the many
energetic volunteers we provided for the Albany National. Our suggestion is
to move the National to all parts of the country but we do not expect the
parent club to listen to us or to common sense. Even Ft. Collins is over
1200 miles from here meaning a roundtrip consisting of 4 days of *hard*
driving. Add another hard day each way for Purina. Too much year after
year. Tired dogs, tired people. Not conducive to encouraging newbies. Not
only are clubs dropping out, our membership now only has 3 parent club
members left - 2 of them out of long habit and one because she earns PAM
awards on all her dogs. When the National was announced for Albany we got
our parent club membership up to about 65% of our membership. The National
should be a showcase for the breed and an educational/PR event but the
parent club does not believe that. By the way - we even have flights to
Germany from Portland so flying in for a Sieger Show would be possible.>>
I totally agree! One of the PRIME reasons memberships are going down is the
lack of equal opportunity across the nation to participate! We are a VERY
active mid-size club in Southern California, in fact so active we won the
Regional Club Challenge in our category last year. (German Shepherd Dog Club
of the San Gabriel Valley). Our members are active in many different
performance events and in conformation. We were all very excited to hear the
2017 Nationals was scheduled for Reno and we all began making plans to attend.
Imagine our crushing disappointment to hear that it was not to be---and no
potential future date was given as to WHEN we might be able to participate.
The vast majority of our club will NOT spend a week just in travel to go to the
Nationals. If it had been in Reno we MIGHT have talked our newer members into
going and then turned them into participating parent club members as well!
This way we have no way to show them the wonders of a National. We are
told the National will stay at Purina until the bank account is over $500,000
again. What if it never gets there? HOW will it get there without the support
of the entire WEST of the country when we can't/won't go to yearly Nationals at
Purina? There are a LOT of active GSD people in the West---I bet you IF you
moved the Nationals back even towards NEARER the West participation would rise
and so would income.
