[ SHOWGSD-L ] Funny story (not about health care!)

Many years ago now when I had race horses I had a groom/night watchman
named Louie. Louie was born and hailed from Puerto Rico.
(Looking back, I now realize he was also paid to keep a good eye on me,
Louie was a giant of a man, and I KNOW my father took "care" of him, lol).
The race track is a tough place for a young girl...
anywhooooo....Louie couldn't say my father's name (Joe) and w/ his accent,
it came out "Yo". Anyone who's ever met my father knows how awkward that
could have been, but God love him, Dad answered to "Yo" and never let on.
Flash forward to one spring when we got a crop of two year olds in who
promptly started to cough. Thousands of dollars in vet care later, (horses
are expensive!) they were still coughing.
I got back to the shed row early one afternoon and it was quiet...no
coughing. "Yo" and Louie looked sheepish. It was weeks before I learned what
they'd done...they'd given all of the two year olds a good dose of what
Louie called "cheap Puerto 'Rican rum". God only knows how many 1/2
gallons...It worked <VBG>.
To this day if I ever hear an animal cough, and thankfully it isn't
often, they get a shot of whatever is in the liquor cabinet and I remember
Louie
w/ fondness.
