eview. At the same time, they insist on putting in pages such as the
residents page, the National Page, Winners, etc. No one pays for those, and

he club's accounting they are an expense to the magazine. Then they ask
or advertising and charge for the pages, (more than any other magazine I
ave seen for a club), and try to balance the costs. It is a false and
isleading way to run a club magazine.
f you insist on balancing the costs of the club magazine, then charge for
ll pages, let the club pay for those it uses, and take back the income
rom the Review as income to the club, and expense it out on the balance
heet. In that way we can again run interesting articles, information for the
embers, and have a magazine that informs, instructs and teaches for the
etterment of the members. Remember medical information, interviews and notes
f meetings. We had letters, and even some opinion pieces from people who
ere respected.
r, if you don't like that, how about doing what most non-profit clubs do,
ncluding the International Brotherhood of Magicians, The Model A Ford Club
f America, and the American Bar Association? They consider the magazine
service of the club, they don't expect it to bring in a profit, and they
reat it as a way to communicate with the members. They also use it to
nform and suggest alternative opinions.
t is how you look at it, and what the purpose of the magazine is
etermined to be, that dictates the form and content of the magazine.
suggest we stop trying to make the Review a profit center, and instead
ake it a service to the members, and include more that informs, and stop
rying to force a profit from something that is a club communication tool.
