I agree with what Patrick said. I show a lot and attend a lot of shows even
when I don't have a dog entered and think the over all temperament of the breed
is in good shape and much better than when I started showing in the 80s.
Believe me I know about temperament problems and are not blind to them. My
first GSD, who was $35 from a backyard Breeder, was a spook. But with lots of
work, I did finally get a CDX on her and despite her issues, she made me fall
in love with the breed.
I was at these Int'l Shows (four shows in two days) as I wanted to get Magnum
aka GCh Covy Tucker Hill's Fireworks of Showboat TC out for some fun as I have
not shown him for almost 2 years and these shows can be fun and casual. (I have
been training him in Nose Work). The two bitches in question were there for
training as the handler (not the owner) knows they have some issues. The puppy
is owned by a Novice person and his first show dog. He has no knowledge of
training and socializing but is a very nice person. He is lucky to find a
handler that will work with him. The puppy was MUCH better today and even got a
puppy group 1! It is a learning process for new people and we need to help and
encourage them. The older bitch was sent to the handler for training and does
have some serious issues in my opinion. The handler has worked hard with her
but not much improvement. I believe she will be going back to the Breeder.
There were 10 GSDs entered and the breed should not be judged by those two. And
as a brag, Magnum was Best of Breed all four shows and was awarded two Group 3s
and one Group 1 and completed his Int'l. Championship. Thanks to Debbie Hopkins
for showing Magnum!
The shows are casual, relaxed and fun and you see some really interesting
breeds that are not AKC recognized but may be some day. It was at these shows
many years ago that I first saw Tollers and now they are very competitive in
the Sporting Group at AKC shows.

Sad statement on our breed?? Really, because a couple of dogs at a
show somewhere reportedly did this? Well, I'll tell you what, my dogs
don't do this. Neither do most of the dogs I see at shows or at our
training. It isn't our breed it's those two dogs. Temperaments are
way better than they were in the eighties and nineties. In fact in my
opinion most everything about our breed is getting better and better,
temperaments, overall health, feet, hips, elbows, ears, secondary sex
characteristics, on and on. The whole country is trying to tear
everything down and find fault with everything now. If you are
breeding dogs like this you better take a look at what YOU are doing,
but don't lump my dogs into that mess because it's not true!

Worse than PETA, is what has become this breed? Shaking, eye rolling? Even
in a puppy, not acceptable.
"must appear confident at all times". Sad statement on our breed.

So yesterday I went a show. Watched a couple of GSD bitches, one a pup,
another a adult ( but a young dog) being shown. The 9-12 to shook so bad
that you could see it from thirty feet away! The adult absolutely melted,
her eyes practically rolling back in her head, as she licked her lips and
pinned back her ears. The judges were very patient with them as they were
both young and inexperienced.
BUT if peta, hsus or aspca had been filming they would have had excellent
footage for the next damming video clip on how WE ABUSE SHOW DOGS.
Think about that people. Anja
