Fort Collins is central from the east, west, north, or south:
* New York City to Fort Collins = 1762 miles = 26 hours driving time
= $732 in gas @ 20 mpg
* San Francisco to Fort Collins = 1237 miles = 18 hours driving time
= $ 515 in gas @ 20 mpg
Beaumont is central from the east and west if you live in the south:
* Charleston to Beaumont = 1016 miles = 16 hours driving time =
$422 in gas @ 20 mpg
* San Diego to Beaumont = 1549 miles = 22 hours driving time = $643
in gas @ 20 mpg
Minneapolis is central from the east and west if you live in the north:
* Seattle to Minneapolis = 1656 miles = 23 hours = $687 in gas @ 20
mpg
* Boston to Minneapolis = 1387 miles = 22 hours = $576 in gas @ 20
mpg
All other locations outside this "Central Band" are either east,
west,
north, or south...but not central.
At $4.15 per gallon for gas this week...maybe it is time to begin
thinking about Qualifying Regionals (entries only from where you live
using the 9 Futurity Regions) with a National Final for classes and
specials instead of just Futurity/Maturity? This might be broadcast on
the web? Maybe this would increase local participation and help one
focus their National effort on fewer dogs thus reducing the costs while
simultaneously giving more meaning to a National appearance???
