3) Are some of our best dogs/bitches not being shown due to the costs
at Futurities/Nationals?
No. If you look at who shows up at the National, there aren't better dogs
than that. This is one of the reasons I don't think the system is broken.
The quality shown at the National are some of the best dogs in the country.
It seems to be working.
4) If yes to #3 is the breed compromised because of this?

Evan I must disagree with you on these two questions. I don't necessarily
think that the best dogs are shown at the National because I haven't seen every
dog that's being shown. I do think that the dogs' whose owners have the time
and the money to show at the National are the ones that end up being shown
there.
I also think that this compromises the breed because everyone wants to breed to
the big winners. Look at the people advertising their breeding stock a "free
of Dallas" blood. Bottlenecks are created and the gene pools gets limited
because perfectly good dogs are overlooked for breeding since they weren't seen
at the national or shown at specialties.
