When we discussed the Potomac specialty on the list before, I said it is the
largest Labrador Retriever show in the world...much larger than the parent
club show, and larger even than Labrador shows in the UK or in Australia.
Lab fanciers from all over the world come to Potomac, and it is truly a
wonderful show where it is possible to immerse yourself in the breed for
days at a time.
Another thing, and this is important, gundog people are a different
species from the rest of us. No matter who you are, you are welcomed with
open arms when you show up at a gundog specialty...especially at Potomac.
To be sure, people are busy, because as you can see, entries are tremendous
and people are VERY busy...but 99 out of 100 people will not be too busy to
talk to you and be friendly.
I have been around the Potomac LRC since it was no more than a plan
of action...and I suggest that anyone who needs a few tips on how a really
wonderful show can be run and still be friendly and fun take a trip to
Frederick Maryland this year and see how it's done.
