When I was coming back from Canada in 2005, the officer at the border to come
back into the USA searched my van with a "intact" male Belgian Mal. I saw the
dog go under my van, tail wagging. He was dragging the officer all around the
van. When the officer came up to my window, my dogs started barking. I told
him I had a bitch in standing season in the van. He started laughing and waved
me through.

It is of some comfort to those of us who live a special life, that our
Supreme Court just ruled on the ability of the police to use a dog to detect
drugs in our homes.
In a time when it has been approved that a drug detection dog can be used
in a car stop, and in an airport luggage search, a line has been drawn.
Our Supreme Court just decided that the right to privacy in your home makes
it illegal for the police to bring a dog to your front door. In a 5/4
decision the court said a dog is invading your privacy if the police bring him
close to your home without a warrant. A Florida arrest and conviction was
thrown out.
Just another reason to own dogs, and not to smoke dope outside one's own
home.
