[ SHOWGSD-L ] Dog Toys and Lead Paint

I saw a report tonight about lead paint on dog toys and how careful dog owners
ought to be in the toys we choose for our dogs to play with.?? One of the toys
they talked about were tennis balls that have paw prints on them - the paw
print showed a very high concentration of lead.? They also tested the heavy
ceramic bowls that some use for water or to feel in - some have been used as
prizes at some specialty shows - these are very high in lead content.? The
report said to be very careful of toys made in China or places where children's
toys that have lead in them have come from . . . (are there dog toys from any
where else?)? They also mentioned the soft rubber toys (often?these have a
squeaker in them) as having high levels of lead . . . there are no provisions
or agency to arrange recalls of pet toys evidently . .
I goggled to find the article - found several articles but not one from this
report.? Most of the reports say that although possible for a dog to get lead
poising - that none of the vets interviewed had seen any cases to date . . .
Just thought this was interesting - and not something we would normally think
about . . .
