This morning my sister's 12 year old grandson, Zach was attacked, and seriously injured by a dog who attacked him as he was walking to his bus stop.He was bitten over a dozen times. A mother who was waiting at the bus stop was able to hit the dog in it's head with a rock, and get Zach into her minivan. The dog then came back to the bus stop, and attacked another child. A maintanace worker saved that boy. Both boys were treated at an area hospital. Zach's injuries included a horrible gaping wound to his back, where a canine tooth missed his lung by 1/4 inch, and his knee is ripped so badly that they stitched one side, and left the other side open to drain. He was in so much pain he was given Morphine at the hospital. Zach's mom is a RN at a St. Louis Children's Hospital, and will be taking some time off to take care of Zach at home. The dog was 1/2 Pitbull, and 1/2 Rottweiler. The woman who owned the dog agreed to let it be euthanized to check it's brain for rabies. She said it was a nice dog, and the did not know how it got out. Her other dog (a littermate) is the aggressive one according to the owner. Thank goodness they did not get out together! On our local news, they did an interview with the other boy who was bitten, and his stepfather. The stepfather stated that the dog was a German Shepherd. No wonder our breed gets a bad rap, huh?
