[ SHOWGSD-L ] Daignostic Heath Question

Sorry everyone, I posted this a few minutes ago and forgot to change the
subject line. BTW, I used an online vet service last night (cost a small
fee) and I will let everyone know what the response was and what the vet
says.
Here's a diagnostic question for everyone:
Background:I have an 8-year-old intact GSD. Generally in good health, but
allergic to just about everything. Allergies are controlled though diet
although he still has some problems because he is allergic to so many
things. His current problem doesn't seem to be related to allergies.
Problem: About one week ago, he started limping. The next day it was a
little worse and it was difficult to pinpoint whether it was the left or
right rear leg. He had been running around and Sam said he slipped about the
pool, but it didn't seem to be serious enough to worry about and he was fine
at the time. The symptoms have gotten rapidly worse. By Saturday, his back
was arched and he was taking short little steps. He is in obvious pain. He
cannot or does not want to get on the bed or couch. He is getting
intermittent erections (no stimulation) but his penis is not extending more
than 1/2 inch beyond the sheath. He does not seem to be aware of it and it
goes away after a short time. Urine seems to be normal in color and flow.
Bowel movements were normal up until yesterday or maybe today. He has not
had a bowel movement, which is not normal. He is being very quiet and
doesn't seem to be able to stand up for any length of time.
BTW, I made an appointment with the vet for Tuesday, but called this morning
for an emergency appointment and he will be seeing the vet this afternoon.
Any diagnostic suggestions?
