Many inherited diseases are recessive. A carrier will not exhibit clinical
symptoms; however, a carrier-to-carrier mating can produce affected
offspring. These DNA tests can identify dogs that are recessive carriers
or help diagnose dogs with clinical symptoms. This is an excellent tool, so
breeders can avoid producing affected puppies.
