Well, well, well.... an interesting turn of events.... (ps.. if this doesn't
prove the REAL intent behind the support of PAWS I don't know what will)
----------------------
For those keeping up with PAWS, Doris Day Animal League is withdrawing
their support, based on a proposed change. Here is excerpt from e-mail
newsletter they put out today:

BREAKING NEWS! In an unfortunate and unforseen turn of events, DDAL is now
opposing the new direction of the Pet Animal Welfare Statute (PAWS). A new
Discussion Draft of this bill (S. 1139) actually allows breeders the option of
being inspected by a "certified third-party inspection service" rather than by
the
USDA, which is charged with enforcing the Animal Welfare Act. This guts the
intent of having the federal government license, regulate and inspect large,
commercial retail breeders AND allows existing breeders the
option of opting out of USDA licensing, regulation and inspection. This is a
bad legal precedent and is bad for animal welfare and protection.
