Crufts is not invitation only...but it is not open to all and sundry,
either. Nor is the number of dogs who can enter limited.
But, you must be qualified to enter, and for the British dogs at least,
that means the dog will have won something (I'm not sure what but it
doesn't have to be a CC) at a "qualifying" show, which is usually any
Championship show that offered the right number of classes. Their
system is different from ours in many ways, one of which is that not all
shows have classes for all breeds, and not all the same classes at those
shows. I don't know how foreign dogs qualify, but even they can't just
enter off the bat--there's some kind of qualification there, too.
BTW - Westminister is more than limited in entry. Nowadays you have
to be a Champion to show there. In the past, you only had to have won a
first in a class.............
