I have not felt criticized yet as a board member and
possibly I am feeling insignificant. I mean, all of our
national leaders are being criticized right now and in a
very few weeks some of them will be going home instead of to
Washington. After all, I spent a lot of time preparing
personal replies to my critics when their warm and fuzzy
blast should reach me, and so far I am setting here with all
of these notes and no where to send them.
Here are some examples:
Dear XXXXXX:
We have been friends for many years and seemed to get along
quite well, until I became a member of the board and
disagreed with you. Looking back over the years
that we've been friends, I can't help but wonder... 'What
the hell was I thinking?'
Dear /////////////:
Your board has taken great pains to consider your request
and to recognize and feel your pain, however, as you look
around the room at we very experienced and wise board
members, you will notice that, although we appear almost
life like, Zzzzzzzzzzzzz!!
Dear ################:
Your highly impassioned letter of vile criticism has reached
my desk and in giving it due consideration, I became ill and
vomited. My response is being mailed to you under separate
cover.
Dear *******************:
Back when we were friends, you said you'd die for me. Now
that we are no longer speaking, let's say you keep your
promise!
Dear $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$:
I know that you are convinced that your dog is better than
mine, and that you resent my winning while being a board
member. It is quite understandable, but consider one
thing....
My tire was thumping, I thought it was flat. When I looked
at my tire, I noticed your cat. So sorry you have suffered
these losses.
Darn.... No one to send them to! I guess I'll just have to
go moose hunting with Sarah! It's a tough job, but someone
has to do it!
