[ SHOWGSD-L ] Compassion & Thanksgiving

Since there's been discussion on the List re. vets and compassion, I =
thought I'd share something re. human physicians and compassion...
My mother has pancreatic cancer, and is very anemic. Over the past 9 =
months, she's been given a drug called Procrit to stimulate her bone =
marrow so it will produce more red cells. This has greatly improved her =
quality of life.
Two weeks ago, when my mother went to the Oncologist and needed a =
Procrit injection, she was told Medicare will no longer pay for the =
Procrit for cancer patients.
Monday, she went to the Gastroenterologist and told her about the =
Procrit. Her doctor left the room and came back with 9 vials of =
Procrit. (That's enough for 18 injections.) She handed them to my mom =
and told her Happy Thanksgiving. They are a gift. A $16,200 gift!
Happy Thanksgiving indeed!!! On many levels... When my mom was =
diagnosed with inoperable cancer back in early April, she was given a =
prognosis of only 2 to 4 months, and she's still here and *very* much =
alive! Another blessing... Tuesday, my sister arrived safely home from =
Afghanistan for a week long visit!
