Dawn, it's not always covering up faults. A lot of grooming is done to make what's really there easier for the judge to see. I have a dog with a wave in his coat immediately behind the withers, and a cowlick at the base of the tale. At a glance, it makes him look like he has a dip in the back and a poor tailset. If I strip out some undercoat in those places so the hair lays flat, his excellent topline and tailset are easy to see. We have all day to evaluate our own dogs and know what's really there, but if a judge's initial glance makes it look like something is wrong, he or she may not look again. BTW - I don't enhance color or trim hairs. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't know how, LOL! Janice In a message dated 11/12/2005 6:58:07 A.M.
