Probably not Mastiffs, but the top Cockers are all handled by professionals.
I don't know what anyone's rates are, but Cocker handlers, like GSD
handlers, are pretty much a breed apart......most of them don't handle any
breed other than Cockers. The few that do are usually doing it on a one-dog
basis, not handling other breeds across the board. They also do a lot of
all-breed shows, and the very best are often group winners or higher...so
there are bonuses to think about, too.
As for breed magazines, I have no idea what the Mastiff magazine looks like,
or even if there is one, but for many years, the Cocker Spaniels' official
magazine has had no lack of advertising...by owners, by handlers, any way
you want to put it.
They also publish photos of specialty winners regularly. Now..the magazine
IS in black and white...lots of the advertising is not full or even half
page, but sort of like classified ads...some people have run contract ads
for years...and all the handlers advertise in every issue. I used to
get that magazine in the mail...it has regular columnists, lots of news,
tons and tons of photos, lots of advertising.........and nobody bitched
about there not being enough information in it.
