[ SHOWGSD-L ] Closed Meeting

I was out all day having a good time herding with my dogs and just got home
to a flurry of e-mails and questions regarding my post about the Members
Only Annual Meeting policy- some of these posts were addressed to me and the
Showgsd List so I am responding to all.
This is not a new policy. I have been a Board member for seven years, I've
served under Ken Downing, Ginny Altman and Lew Bunch. During this complete
period of time membership status was checked at the door of the Annual Meeting
room and, unfortunately, it was one of my volunteering jobs. I have been
either in charge or assisting someone, checking membership cards or verifying
the membership status using a roster. Last year Joan Fox, Helen Gleason and
Patty Sczymzak helped me with this task. We had multiple copies of the
current roster and we divided the entry lines by groups (based on last name
initial) - it was a bit slow but it got the job accomplished. Joan, Helen and
I
agreed to bring to the January meeting a proposed change to make it an Open
meeting, however our By-Laws state that voting at the annual meeting is
permitted and only current members may vote. It would be difficult, albeit
not
impossible, to divide the room and have voting members on one side and
visitors in
another side. However, I cannot imagine that anyone would want to be
responsible for policing this practice. For more information on this area,
please
check our By-Laws, Article V, section 2 and our Policy and Procedure manual
pages 98 and 99. Also, please check our P & P manual page 2 which states:
Annual Meeting of the Club will be held in conjunction with the National
Specialty, if possible, as stated in the By-Laws. Only members in good
standing
may attend.
I intend to bring copies of the current roster to Ft. Collins, divide it
among our volunteers (anyone out there wishing to help with this?), form entry
lines divided by last name's initial and welcome our members to the Annual
Meeting. I hope this satisfies any questions that you may have regarding the
Members Only at the Annual Meeting.
