[ SHOWGSD-L ] Changes to AKC dog show rules

I think I like that change. Maybe I need to think about it longer. I
think the Reserve Winner's Dog at our National deserves points, if the entry
is twice what is required for a 5 point major.
I remember one evening about midnight, I was having a discussion with John
DeHope. He used to call to talk often late at night. Us old people often
are up most of the night. Just ask Tedi.
John and I didn't agree that there should be so many Select dogs and
bitches. I said those who didn't make it thought there should be more, and
noone
who did thought it was too many Selects. The only people who felt it was
too many were those who did not enter.
Then John said he felt it was too easy to finish a dog. I said even with
small classes the quality was such, that the same number of dogs was
finishing each year, and it was just as hard to get a champion as it used to
be.
John said to me that getting an ROM was too easy since you could do it with
one litter. I said no matter how you get it, it has meaning for those who
get it, and says a lot about the producing abilities of the dam or sire.
It was silent for a minute and John said to me: "The problem with you
Evan is that you think everyone should have a good time in showing dogs."
I have thought a lot about that conversation. John was right. I think
everyone should have a good time showing dogs.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
