IMO, stress is a major  catalyst for the development of disease in dogs.
(And humans, for that  matter.)

I'd love to do a study re. how many dogs have suffered  bloat/torsion,
contracted gastritis or opportunistic infections, etc. while  showing,
traveling, being boarded or sent away for a breeding, or while  their masters
are away from home, and so  forth...
