A month or so ago, as it has done many times in the past, Showgsd-l began a
Candidates' Forum project, to assist those GSDCA members who will be voting
in the upcoming GSDCA election to know something substantive about the
people running for GSDCA office. This is a tradition that is almost as old
as the List, since our primary objective is, and always has been, to
support the Fancy and to promote communication. We have always taken pains
to assure that the Candidates' Forum is done in a fair and non-partisan
way, and it has always been handled by a committee of volunteers. We
received very positive feedback from Club members, with requests that we do
it again this year.

This year's election is especially unusual given the large number of people
on the ballot, emphasizing the importance of providing voters with a
substantive basis for decision-making among candidates. The committee of
volunteers handling the project this year is Peggy Mickelson, Pat Galambos
and Ileana Nogueras. We thank them for all their hard work, past, present
and future, in making this happen. Acting completely independently of the
List Management, the committee prepared a Candidates' Questionnaire, to be
made available to all who are on the 2005 GSDCA ballot. Once they have
received the candidates' responses, they intend to collate the responses in
a tabular format, so that it will be straightforward for readers to see the
responses by each candidate to each question, and then provided to
Showgsd-l for posting on its web site, which is exactly how this has always
been done in the past. In order to facilitate putting the responses into a
table, they have placed a word limit on the answers, since large numbers of
candidates and long responses would make a table impossible to construct.

In response to requests that the material not be made public, and that it
be available to all GSDCA members, the plan is to post it in a
password-protected area, and to provide the password only to GSDCA members.

The Showgsd-l Administration has also offered the GSDCA Board the
prerogative to also post a link to that material from the Members' Only
secured area of the GSDCA site, which could remain there until the
balloting deadline has passed. The effect of this would be that GSDCA
members could go to the GSDCA Members' Only area, enter their passwords,
and then access the questions and answers there. The intention of this
offer is to facilitate access for all GSDCA members, whether they are
familiar with the Showgsd-l site or not.

The Showgsd-l Administration is pleased to continue the tradition of
serving as a resource for the North American Fancy and furthering its
primary objective of promotion of communication among the fancy ad the
Parent Clubs (GSDCA and GSDCC).

In furtherance of these same objectives, Showgsd-l is also pleased to again
provide the Evan Ginsburg's National Commentary via the National Blog.
