OK Well I guess it was just my brothers dog that had matted hair so he needed
constant care and brushing and needed constant attention so he wouldn't run.

These are not long range herding dogs. They are guardian dogs. They lie among
the herd,
usually in a rather high spot so they can see in all directions, thus guarding
the herd. They
do not need any more space than their herd, and they require very little care,
some staying
out in the field for days without much human contact at all, unlike our
shepherds who
would literally pine without their humans.

I just found out that some nice lady has donated a puppy - not just any puppy
at
Great Pyrenees 5 month old puppy - to a wonderful cause. This puppy now lives
on a ranch. These are long range herding dogs. They need to have room - not
to
mention a lot of care! I am going to this benefit tomorrow to help out. I am
upset with them for even accepting this! My brother had one of these babies on
a fenced 3 acre property and this dog couldn't stay in the fence. SMART and
needed to GO and have lots of attention! I know most of the people coming to
the event and know they would be good homes, but not necessarily the right home
for this kind of dog - YIKES!
