I don't think Barbara was denigrating everyone but breeders so much as making
the exact same point. Some breeders EXCEL at what they do.
You are exactly right Paula!
Not everyone is a "Breeder"........and not every breeder is good at exhibiting
or
promoting and definitely not great at handling or conditioning a dog.

In the Sport of showing dogs we have "Breeders"....good Breeders are the very
foundation of the Breed IMO. ( It starts there )
We have "Exhibitors"........they are the ones that prove our animals are
good... or great.
"Handlers".........they are the ones that show our dogs to perfection...often
hiding or
making a fault less noticeable and accenting the animal's great points....with
finesse.
We have "Judges".....they are who we have to prove our breeding program to.

Sometimes they buy it.....sometimes they don't.

Not everyone is good at all of the above. Not everyone want's to become a
Judge.
Doesn't mean they can't....and they can't do a great job....just not an
interest for them.
Not everyone is capable of judging honestly and intelligently.
Not everyone is capable of handling. It takes not only athletecism...but a
good handler
has knowledge of the Breed....KNOWS a good dog....KNOWS what to accent and to
'hide' .......and knows the shows and judges where the dog should be shown.
Not everyone is a good Breeder. Some need to follow their handlers
advice....or follow
the best promoted stud dog.....some have a 'vision'....know and love the Breed
and know
the Standard and exactly what they want to produce in the whelping box.
Exhibitors are a special part of this Sport....some are GREAT Exhibitors and
take a dog
to the heights of it's career......and not everyone can or will do that. We
need them too.
Conditioners and trainers are often the hardest working and least appreciated
on this
":Totem Pole" of a dogs career.
Some of us do most of above....some just do one part....and a chosen few do it
all.
They are few and far between.
The KEY......is to KNOW this Breed....and KNOW the Standard for your
Breed....and
do what you do the BEST YOU CAN DO.....and love your dogs all the time!!!

You can say that again, about breeding being a "special gift," but, please
don't denigrate us buyers and exhibitors!! Did you ever try to buy a good one?
Took me (just an "anyone," as you put it) 34 years for someone to give me one
to show successfully!
Thank heavens for breeders; I do not have the heart, the stomach, the eye,
nor the talent to breed good ones, let alone bad ones!!! :-) :-)
