[ SHOWGSD-L ] Bi Colors / Typical GSDs are white?

For quite some time AKC did not have bi colors as a color on the AKC.
Reg. You could NOT get your dog AKC Registered as a bi-color...
Our U.S. AOE Grand Victor Mar Haven's Color Guard..a DEFINITE BI-COLOR
was AKC Registered as a black and tan. AKC would not allow us to reg.
him as a bi-color.
I imagine that is one reason whites came in as # 4 in colors.....as there
has always had LOTS of bi-colors..but they were Reg. as black and tans.

I don't think the GSDCA had anything to do with that. AKC does the color
choices, the standard has always labeled blues and livers as serious faults
and white as a DQ (since the last revision in the 60's) I'm sure I will be
corrected if that is not right, but none the less, I do not think the GSDCA
has a say so over what is put on the AKC registration slip.
More and more color patterns have been added to that over the years, but so
far no piebald/panda marking (thank goodness).
I think Vicki sums it up very well, and just because a certain color is
registered does not make it a correct color, no matter what the statistics
say.
