Well, I made it to work today - yikes, I am tired. It took me almost 12
hours to get home from the Board meeting yesterday -definitely, the old body
is
not what it used to be. However, I was so very pleased with the outcome of
our meeting that I don't even mind it. The proposed arena site is wonderful
large grassy areas for walking dogs, good stalls, excellent bathing
facilities, complete ring accessibility for "attitude enhancement",
performance rings
close to conformation (but not so close as to distract dogs), great herding
facilities with good sheep, RV parking next to the show, vendors space, and
most important, a wonderful group of local club members willing to assist and
be involved. The host hotel is very dog friendly and I saw many dogs walking
about there - it provides "dog beds" as many of their guests are patients at
the nearby Veterinary School Hospital. The town mayor came to "sell" his
town and the local guide pointed that this is a very dog friendly locality
with
several dog parks available. I really believe the membership will be very
pleased with this site. While flying from my hometown was not convenient, a
drive to a bigger airport would give me direct flights.
It was also good to have a unified support against the proposed PAWS
legislation and the change to, again, place no limits in the number of
selects.
If you have the opportunity, I encourage all GSDCA members to attend a board
meeting - it will give you a better sense of what it takes to run this huge
organization with a volunteer workforce. For those unable to attend and if
you are interested in the Membership Report, please let me know and I will
