From "The Columbian"......Clark Co., WA. Oct. 24, 2007 Brush Prairie: The trackling dog Dakota was shot and killed Tuesday as teams of SWAT officiers closed in on an armed convicted murder....who allegedly had told an acquaintance he wanted to "kill a cop". Dakota, a 5 year old German Shepherd owned by the Vancouver Police Department was shot in the head and killed about 3 1/2 hours after the police were called to the Lewis & Clark Railway tracks just east of NE Caples Rd. in Brush Prairie. About 5:52 pm, an officier believed to be Dakota's handler, Vancouver Police officier Roger Evans, radioed that the dog had been found dead. "Don't bring the litter... I will carry him out" the officier said. The article went on to detail the successful career that Dakota and Officer Evans had had in the 3 1/2 years they had been a team.
