Dear Listers,
It looks like the transition is behind us, and most people are receiving
and posting normally. Below is some important information. Please save it
for future reference.
On this server, it is very simple to stop and start your mail, and to
change from Digest to Regular and back. You can do it yourself. Here's how:
There are two ways to do it. Both are easy. It is completely your preference:
1 - send email to showgsd-l-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx (this is NOT the same
address you use to send posts to the List):
to set Digest, the message is: set digest
to remove Digest, the message is: unset digest
to stop mail, the message is: set vacation
to start mail, the message is: unset vacation
OR
2 - You can do it via the web, at:
http://showgsd.org./chat/public2.html#settings - about 2/3 of the way down
the page, there is a box to input your email address, then a drropdown
list, where you can choose to turn vacation on or off, to turn digest on or
off, or to unsubscribe. Just choose what you want, hit "GO". That is all
there is to it.
There have been reports of a few Internet providers blocking mail from the
FreeLists server. Apparently they think it is spam. If your mail is not
coming through reliably, that is probably why. ATT is doing this, but is
allowing some posts through. We have also heard there are problems with
Verizon, and with one or two of the smaller Canadian providers (EISA
?). If this is happening to you, please contact your Internet provider, as
there is nothing we can do at this end - the server is sending the email to
you, but your provider may be intercepting and rejecting some of it.
If the tech support people ask you for the IP of the SMTP, it is:
turing.freelists.org, 206.53.239.180
All in all, things seem to be working well, and a world of improvement over
what we experienced at Yahoo.
