[ SHOWGSD-L ] A Hero Has Fallen

I don't know who of you in WI have heard about the fallen Firefighter, Lt
Arnie Wolff, but I had to post. Not just because he was a firefighter, but
because he was a friend of my family's.
My sister played soccer with his daughter, Kathryn, and works with one of his
sons, Ryan. My brother is good friends with Ryan.
Arnie and another firefighter were on scene of a house fire that appeared to
be small, and they entered the building, hoping to contain it. Upon entering
the house, they fell through the floor and into the basement, which was
ensconced in flame. The other firefighter made it out through a window, Arnie
did
not. He called out a mayday, as did others on the team, but he was unable to
be rescued. His autopsy reported his death was most likely cause by smoke
inhalation.
A funeral procession was held on thursday...Arnie was supposed to be promoted
that day. It was decided that his promotion should be given, and he became
Lt Arnie Wolff. His wife and he were to celebrate their 27th wedding
anniversary this past Friday. Instead, she had his funeral.
Over 1700 people showed up at his processional and funeral. He was a good
man, not only because of his job as a firefighter, but as a father and a
friend.
He was exceedingly active in kids sports, especially soccer. All the
referees in the Green Bay and surrounding areas donned their uniforms and
marched in
his funeral procession back to the fire house Thursday. They are petitioning
for a Green Bay soccer field to be named in Arnie's memory, due to his
committment to the kids and the sport.
Ryan and his family live just a couple of blocks from us, and my sister has
been spending most of her time over there with their family.
Arnie leaves behind a wife, and three children, Eric, Ryan, and Kathryn.
RIP Lieutenant Wolff, you will be missed.
