over the last 25 years, I have been to both specialty & all breed
shows.....I have attended them on crutchers, in a wheelchair and currently
on a walker. I have always found a spot where I could see what is going
on. It may not be just outside of the ring(where I may be in the way)Â
but have always had a good view. I have had people step in front of me to
double their dog when this happens I move.
The object of a dog show is to WIN......Someone is paying those handlers,
groomers , assistants good money to try to win.I don't need to be at the
edge of the ring in their way. These same people that were sitting and
gathering and partying would never think to do that in the middle of a race
track while the horses were running nor would they sit on the 50 yard line
on the field during a football game...they would be in the stands out of the
way where they belong.

Stormy after reading this it is nothing I have not seen at All Breed Shows
I have attended throughout the years. I do believe though it might
still be location related and the facility on the show ground. How others
see our breed shows in the people that walk away when the GSDs are
shown. Do have a question though with this...
"A GSD cannot make it around the ring without one of its favorite assistants
at every corner of the ring"
As most of the Breed Shows inside do not see much room for this to be
happening.

I totally understand, Judy. And I think at a Specialty ring, now and then
and in the future, you are absolutely correct.
But at an All breed show, group ring, under the pressure that pure bred
breeders and exhibitors are under right now, I believe that we have to think
(as does the show management) of how we can best present the breeders, the
exhibitors, the owners -- how we can convince the public that our pure bred
dog is NOT second best to the new breed, the RescueDog.
Maybe it’s because I see what is going on as pure bred dogs are being
classed as less than worthy, and the media pushes the ShelterDog breed as
better… maybe that I’m seeing that so much.

If the audience cannot see then the club needs to make provisions.
It is not the job of the handers, doublers, assistants or Santa Claus to
make sure the spectators can see.
CASE IN POINT: This Sunday with Kaitlyn in a wheelchair and with the
weather being super hot, in the afternoon,
we had a hard time finding shade for her also where she, and Hunter could
see the GSD ring.
A person affiliated with the show, SAW us, and immediately directed them
(Hunter and Kaitlyn) to a tent
where there was a ring, not being used, adjacent to the GSD ring.
 For the Group, we , because we are all grown ups, found our own shade
under a tent with many really great REALLY GREAT
handlers and owners from the Toy Group, Terrier Groups...twenty feet back
and with full view of the Group ring.  They were only
too happy to accommodate Kaitlyn and Hunter in their need to be able to
see.
 Grooms , conditioners, doublers , assistants or whatever you want to
call
them are not making a living making sure people can
see the ring. They get paid to do the BEST they can to get the very BEST
out of those dogs. PERIOD.
This is a show chairman , show management issue,.  DO NOT lay it on the
exhibitors and their assistants.

I understand, Kathy. I think my main point was that in this time when
“the other side' is working really hard to make a BAD impression about
pure bred dogs, AKC, and dog shows, we (as a past exhibitor), need to be
aware of how we come across to the public.ÂÂ
I agree that Show Management need to have that awareness also, but every one
of us is being targeted, so every one of us has to make the extra effort.
Of course, it’s my opinion… whose else could it be? <VBG>

I thought the same Molly, but I also observed by looking at the replay that
the
ockey wasn't pushing Chrome and he sort of coasted into the finish. With
nimals it is so hard to tell. A horse or dog can have the structure but
lacks
he desire to want to perform or win. Another animal may lack some
structural
ttributes but has heart and desire. I can never tell by structure who will
win
e it horse or dog, there is so much more to it than what is apparent.

I will be rooting for California Chrome in his future
