I had a bitch that wanted to kill her pups the minute they were born.  Good 
thing I was there.  I bought a muzzle the next day and held her down 6 (or 
more) times a day and put the pups on her.  I also bottle fed.  She would not 
clean them.  Eventually she would come into the room and lay down on the 
blanket, let me put the pups on to nurse but I never left her alone with them.  
I had her spayed after that.
