The MOMS Club Board has been discussing something and I would like to get
feedback from you all.
We have been discussing 'seceding' from International (we are a chapter of
MOMS Club International) and continuing on as an independent club. We
could either apply for non-profit status or become a club without
non-profit status. From our point of view there are specific pros and con's
to this decision.
Argument for seceding:
-We do not feel that we as a club are aligned with the Mission of the
International, which is much more focused on supporting stay at home moms,
whereas our club wishes to support all families in Sharon.
-Because of this we do not follow many rules of International which limits
the events that we can have at night because the Club should be mainly 'day
time support'.
-We pay a large amount to International to remain a chapter
-We currently have 138 active members and are at risk of being asked to
'sister' into multiple chapters. Technically we are supposed to sister if
we are above 100 members
Argument against seceding:
-We lose our non-profit status (unless we apply for our own)
-There is less formality that could allow for continuity of the club if
membership or leadership lapsed temporarily
