SFCC Request from the Membership
The current Computer Room setup includes seven machines, two printers and
one print server to share the two printers with each of the seven machines.
It is working just fine.
An additional capability we are exploring is the inclusion of a server to
allow the machines be part of a local Domain. We already have two older
computers to test the creation and maintenance of the local Domain
Controller for the Computer Room. So, there will be no cost for hardware
and the software being proposed is ubuntu which is open source free
software. This will allow a few additional features for the Tech Team to
offer and manage. For example, we can have our own weh server ( only
offered inside the Computer Room and the wireless users of the club). This
would allow us to create other online lessons, forms and general web server
features that we only have in a limited form at this time with our
commercial provider for the SFCC website. It will also allow the
authentication of users on the SFCC computers then we can dispense with
the sign up forms.
However, before we can implement a Server as mentioned, we need two
additional volunteers who are interested in working on a Linux ubuntu
server. We need backup individuals to help manage the capability. If you
