Thanks guys for advice received, and now acted on.
A question for later - when I want to do a honey extraction later in the
season, It looks like I'll have one full super on each hive, and one partially
full super. To simplify clearance of the bees, would it be appropriate to move
one of the full supers to replace a partially full one on one hive, and put the
two partially full ones together on the other hive. Then using the one
clearance board that I own to clear the bees from the two full supers, before
then going to extract the honey from them both.My concern would be that it may
not be a good idea to mix bees from two hives. The downside then would be that
I have to do two separate clearances and extractions...
Lastly, as I probably can't depend on the Club being able to lend me a
centrifuge, would someone with a centrifuge please be willing to lend me theirs?

Many beekeepers advocate 'under-supering' i.e. adding empty supers beneath
full ones. I also do this as it makes it easier to remove the full one for
extraction when it is fully capped. I think it makes life easier for the bees,
too, as they have less far to travel to store nectar for processing.
Glad to hear they have settled down, Ian!

Steve.

Hello beekeepers, and here's a request for some advice.
Both my hives have 2 supers on them. The lower one in each case is reasonably
well (IMO) packed with honey. The upper one in each case was put on about a
month ago with only foundation, but both are becoming reasonably well drawn.
The question is whether I should swap the supers over i.e. put the upper/newer
ones below the lower/older ones? My thinking for this is that it would make it
easier for the bees to do more on the new supers, and eventually I hope yield
me more honey by the time that point arrives...
All opinions welcomed please!
