Hello All,
I have completed re-powering process for Skedaddle SW1000 #89. Thanks to the
help of several SCOAA folks and Arvid Scherpf, and Graeme Nolan at seawind
we have installed two High Thrust 9.9 GPXR Yamaha motors. I'm not sure I
have the initials in the correct order but they are the remote (R), power
tilt (P) and extra long shaft (X) version.
We had to cut away a bit of the cowling but the power tilt fit fine after
that. I may add a bit of fiberglass forward of the cut out to deflect waves.
I am able to lift the motors with the power tilt so it is not wasted, though
unnecessary.
We used all the ss parts that Seawind has fashioned to hold motors
centerline and lead shift and throttle cables in and replace the shift lever
which had to be installed downward which necessitated reversing the hook up
inside the console shifting mechanism.
We installed new 10 pin wiring harnesses. We had to cut the end to feed them
through but splicing was fairly straightforward with some help from our
local Yamaha mechanic. We used the exsisting key swithces and installed new
engine hour meters.
While all this was going on Ted and Milie Cook sailed in to our cove on
Morning Glory and told us they had re-powered in July and found two of the
proper international motors in Seattle and installed them with much less
struggle. We were told that they were not available so had to use the P
version.
Anyway we are operational and making preparation for a jaunt down the
waterway and to the Bahamas beginning the end of October.
