POST DESCRIPTION
Title: Media and Public Relations Specialist
Duty Station: Banda Ac= eh, NAD, Republic of Indonesia
Responsible to: Communications Manager
Coordinates with: Communications Manage= r, Program Leaders, Project
Managers, Community Facilitators, Technical Adv= isors
Job Summary: The Media and Public Relations Specialist will work= to
increaselocal, national and international understanding of CARE=E2=80= =99s
work and role in Aceh, build excellent working relationships with loca= l,
national, and international media, and provide information to the public=
about CARE=E2=80=99s work. The Media and Public Relations Specialist will =
support CARE=E2=80=99s commitment to transparency and accountability.

CONTEXT
CARE is one of the world=E2=80=99s largest and most well= -established
international development and humanitarian assistance agencies= , and has
been working in partnership with the Government of Indonesia sinc= e 1967.
CARE in Indonesia has carried out large-scale operations across the=
archipelago, encompassing emergency operations, transitional activities ce=
ntred on agriculture and nutrition, and a range of development initiatives =
in such areas as water and sanitation, agriculture and natural resources, h=
ealth, micro-credit and civil society/good governance.
After res= ponding immediately to the South Asia tsunami disaster with
emergency medic= al, food and relief supplies and by ensuring a supply of
safe water, CARE= =E2=80=99s longer term work in Aceh consists of health and
nutrition progra= mming and trauma support, improvements to water and
sanitation infrastructu= re, construction of permanent shelter, job and
assetrecovery, and disaster= risk reduction to help mitigate the risk of
suchfuture disasters.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
=C2=B7 Work to ensure transparency of C= ARE activities and increase
accountability to the public.
=C2=B7 Publi= c information: In coordination with the Communications
Manager,HAP Advisor= and Program Managers, the Media and Public Relations
Specialist will:
o Liaise with the Accountability/Outreach Officer to devise and implement =
public information mechanisms for awareness-raising and promotion of CARE p=
rojects and activities in program communities;
o Develop and publish a= monthly CARE newsletter for beneficiaries and/or
communities;
o Work = with the Accountability Officer to encourage field staff to report
back to = the Communications Department with human interest stories or
photos;
o= Write human interest stories and take photos for CI, CII and the CARE
news= letter;
o Ensure adherence to CARE=E2=80=99s mission and vision and po= licies
relating to communications;
o Help maintain the CARE Indonesia = Web site.
=C2=B7 Media relations:
o Act as a reference/contact po= int and arrange interviews with staff for
local/national media;
o Act = as spokesperson for CARE when required;
o Monitor print and electronic= media for mention of CARE and other items of
interest, reporting back to t= he Communications Manager and/or other
relevant staff and ensure follow-up = if needed;
o Provide media training and sensitization to staff;
o= Oversee the production and distribution of external communication on
CARE==E2=80=99s community programming to local/national media (print, radio,
TV)= ;
o Coordinate public relations activities for local and national pres= s.
=C2=B7 Internal communications:
o Assist Communications Manage= r in implementing and maintaining systems
forinternal communications and d= eveloping and implementing effective tools
for disseminating information wi= thin CARE, including the CII Intranet;
o Develop an internal photo dat= abase to ensure all CARE Aceh photos are
properly stored and accessible.=C2=B7 Other (communications) tasks and
meetings as directed, including = occasional translation and assistance with
official visits.
QUAL= IFICATIONS & SKILLS
=C2=B7 Education: Minimum bachelor degree in journ= alism, public relations,
communications or other related field;
=C2=B7= Minimum five years=E2=80=99 experience in media (broadcast or print)
in In= donesia, or related field such as media/public relations - Acehnese
experie= nce an asset;
=C2=B7 Excellent writing, editing and communications ski= lls (Bahasa
Indonesia) and fluency in English required =E2=80=93 fluency in= Acehnese an
asset;
=C2=B7 Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, p= hoto editing software
etc.);
=C2=B7 Attention to detail and an orderly= approach to tasks;
=C2=B7 Ability to manage multiple tasks effectivel= y and follow-up where
required;
=C2=B7 Ability to work in a team and u= nder pressure: the position requires
an individual who is flexible, can wor= k overtime when required, learns
quickly and displays initiative;
=C2= =B7 Gender and cultural awareness and sensitivity required, and
dedication = to CARE=E2=80=99s mission;
=C2=B7 NGO experience desirable.
