Thiruvananthapuram , March 25

CLOSE on the heels of commissioning the world's first "ATM-on-ferry" at
Kochi last month, State Bank of India (SBI), Kerala Circle, is set to unveil
its 100th ATM in the State on March 26.

The bank will commission 12 ATMs simultaneously on the day at various part
of the State, taking the total number of the machines from 88 as of now to
100, according to Mr C. Narasimhan, Chief General Manager, Kerala Circle.

He said the bank, which has 234 branches in the State, proposed to double
the number of ATMs over the next one year. And, to popularise the use the
machines, the bank's branches across the State would hold ATM melas.

The number of the bank's ATM-cum-debit card holders in the State has crossed
the one-lakh mark. Besides, the Internet banking facility is now available
in 62 branches and the bank is planning to introduce it in more than 100
branches in the next six months.

Mr Narasimhan said that SBI's core banking solution would be introduced in
the State on a pilot basis in September this year and this would be
gradually made available in other branches in the course of time.

The bank is also set to open its offshore banking unit at Cochin Export
Processing Zone. This will be SBI's second such unit in the country, the
first being at SEEPZ, Mumbai.

Mr Narasimhan said the bank's total business in the circle was projected to
cross Rs 10,000 crore in the current year with deposits of around Rs 7,000
crore and advances of more than Rs 3,000 crore.
