This is a reminder that we are meeting on Monday November 18th for a joint
meeting with SMPTE/AES/SSPI.  Please be there to support *YOUR *Atlanta
chapter.

A joint meeting with SMPTE/AES/SSPI

*Thanks to Dick Perin of SMPTE-ATL for the following meeting description:*

Imagine this scenario: You come in to work Monday morning and your boss
asks, "Have you got time to dub some content for me? No hurry. The next day
or two will be fine."
"No problem, boss. What do you need?"
"I need you to archive everything of cultural value since the invention of
moving images..."
"Uh... OK." What am I archiving this footage to?"
"Your choice. You can pick the media. Anything that will be good for the
next few centuries."
"Uh... OK. I'll jump right on it. On second thought, I will start on it
right after lunch. I need to turn some lead into gold first..."

Seriously, what if your job was to preserve our heritage? Specifically,
archiving media collections large and small. For at least 150 years! Oh,
and don't forget the supporting metadata, and the ability to search easily
and quickly. And, the media needs to be easily accessible. What to keep?
What not to keep? Those might be the easiest questions. Or would they? *Our
guest, Mr. James Snyder, is a Senior System Administrator from the Library
of Congress, based out of Culpeper, Virginia.* This promises to be a very
interesting and unusual meeting. *Media Asset Management will never look
the same to you again!*
