If the moon was behind the sun from us, something would be very, very wrong
with our solar system.
The ancient Greeks were able to calculate the distance to the moon as 30 Earth
diameters. They did not know how big the Earth was for another 200 years
(until Eratosthenes measured it), but they could tell by timing Earth's shadow
drifting across the moon how far the moon was in Earth diameters.
You could fit 109 Earth's inside the solar diameter. So our sun would engulf
not only the Earth and moon, but the entire lunar orbit plus some. The lunar
orbit would be approximately 60 Earth diameters, so the sun centered on the
Earth would be bigger still, with a radius of another 20 Earth diameters beyond.
Earth's diameter we now know to be close to 70,000 stadia (8000 miles).

Explain the sun being behind the moon? Or vice versus? Or the moon being
