Hi all - I was sadly mistaken last night that clear skies at sunset in town =
clear skies at Fishtrap. However, in addition to limited celestial
observations (Sagittarius was visible for 1/2 hour - the rest of the sky, not
so much), I do have terrestrial updates:
* The ranch road has been graveled! Those axel eating pot holes are (at
least for the moment) filled up quite nicely. What the fall rains will do to
that is another story, but for now - swerving your vehicle back and forth to
avoid pot holes should be at a minimum.
* BLM has been a hive of busy bees. There is a newly constructed
permanent toilet facility (pit variety), not quite ready for prime time by all
the tape around it, but hopefully soon! The porta potty is still out to
pasture beyond that gate <G>
* There are several significant mounds of gravel along the east fence,
which are obscuring many of the usual set up sites. Lord knows if they will
still be there by Star Party time on Sat., or if they are intended to level the
parking lot (wouldn't that be nice!)...so take this with a grain of salt.
Might be good to err on the side of caution next Sat. and arrive early, just in
case the gravel is still piled up - so you can see where best to set up. There
are about 6-8 gravel mounds oriented east to west from the fence line, and I'd
estimate about 4-5 feet high and 6-8 feet long.
Sky is cloudless at the moment so I might (might!) be tempted to give it
another go this evening. We shall see! Phyllis
