Hi All, This is to bring to notice of all the students of USIT, that we are in the process of reconstituting an active and enthusiastic "Linux and Open Source" club in the school. The club has its activities centred around Free and Open Source software that includes Linux as well as Open Soource Software for other platforms. The activities of the club include ( but are not limited to): -Taking up projects involving Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). -Conducting regular workshops throughout the year on FOSS related topics with an aim to popularise the use of such software amongst the broader student community in the campus. -Knowledge building and development by working as a team. Therefore I call upon all such students of USIT who: -Have been involved with FOSS,have some knowledge in the domain and would like to devote their time to FOSS activities as a memeber of the club. -Have an interest in FOSS,havn't had much exposure to it but would like to learn by activitely participating in the club activities and devoting time to it. - I encourage the interested amongst the freshers to join the club, as they shall be key to ensuring continuity in the club activities over the years. Please note that this is just an effort to bring together all the FOSS enthusiasts in the campus together,on a platform, so that they can share their knowledge and work as a team. You will be expected to devote some time to club related activities. The Head of Club shall act as a co-ordinator to facilitate co-operation and synergise the team. KINDLY DO NOT EXPECT ANY CERTIFICATE OR ANY OTHER SIMILAR INCENTIVE FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CLUB ACTIVITES. I request all interested students to send a mail to me at mail.anilgiri@xxxxxxxxx with their Name,Course,Semester and E-Mail ID at the earliest so that we can arrange a gathering of all FOSS enthusiasts very soon and kickstart our activities. PS:I doubt if freshers have aleady joined this mailing list. Therefore I request you to kindly forward this mail to the Yahoo/Google groups of your junior (1st year) batches as well as to their class reperesentatives. Regards! Anil Giri.
