Steve, Peter and I both printed more copies, and I gave out some SSSG maps and the Comet Challenge booklets at the EVAC meeting last Friday, and suggested that folks could return their observations to you, even if they were not out at Sentinel.

Sounds like a good turnout!

Howdy all;

We had 9 vehicles and scopes on Friday night at Sentinel and 42 vehicles on Saturday night. So, thank you to all the folks who decided to drive a long way for a one night observing session. It certainly was conducted under great skies. I rated both nights at 8 out of 10 for transparency and the seeing varied from 6 to 7 out of 10 depending on the altitude. All in all, a great weekend.

I only have two of the handouts returned by people who met the comet challenge at this point, so if you completed the challenge of finding 4 of those tough comets, please let me know. I did not mean to create such a difficult challenge, but that is how it goes sometimes. Comet magnitudes are very erratic and several of the comets were next to impossible with any telescope we had available.

David Fredericksen and I were laughing about having lots of notes to enter into the computer over the next several days. We did lots of objects in: Cassiopeia, Pisces, Cepheus and Aquarius. I also did some old favorites in Monoceros and a couple in Vela. Lots of fun.

So, with Thanksgiving coming up, I appreciate and gives thanks to all those who made their way to Sentinel for some observing the sky and sharing it with friends. I looked at my notes last week and found that this is the 20th year we have been observing at that site. Time does indeed fly.

Clear Skies to us all;

Steve Coe
