If it's an S2 4000 encoder type, I have a non-working one you can have to use for spare parts if you can do that. It's mechanically fine, just doesn't work, I think it got wet. Email me. I tried to solder it back on, but it was far too small for my tools to cleanly solder. It is a 4000 tick optical encoder with a part number J2044 on the label. Is there a store in Phoenix that might stock this encoder? If so, where would it be and would you have a phone number for it? I am also going to send an email to Starizona to see if they have the part in stock. Last choice would be contacting Celestron, I suppose, although the DSCs are an after-market item and not Celestron's.
