On a few occasions I have heard some of you express some dissatisfaction with
GoDaddy. As you know there are many companies out there now for hosting. As a
matter of fact there are so many choices it is difficult to determine what
might be right for a particular situation. So, we have options to make
improvements to the site and add desired capabilities missing from the current
implementation, if that is what you want to do.
For the board meeting on May 12th, I ask each of you to take a few minutes and
look at some of the top-rated hosting companies listed at two links:

Just for comparison, our current hosting plan with GoDaddy is $10.99 per month.
(We are using only a fraction of the capabilities our plan offers.)
Some things to consider when reviewing plans:
1. What is the purpose of the SAC website?
2. Hosting cost: note that most advertised prices start very low and change to
a higher rate after a period of time. Consider setup and recurring costs.
3. Features: email, forum, storage space, bandwidth
4. Support: phone and/or online
5. Whether or not to change to a content management system that is much easier
to maintain by non-programmers
6. Ratings of hosting company by other consumers
7. Uptime guarantee
8. Consider using Meetup, Facebook and other social media applications for
publicizing events and keeping everyone informed. Use the website for more
static information.
9. Availability of marketing options (using PayPal or some other application to
sell items, accept donations, pay for memberships, etc.)
I am sure I have omitted other considerations you may be interested in. The
main thing is for you to think about how you believe SAC should proceed with
the website. More than one person should have input and more than one person
should put some effort into making sure the website meets SACâs requirements
and expectations.

I have talked with Marty (EVAC) about getting some assistance with implementing
PayPal on the website so we can pay dues and possibly sell items on the site.
He is willing to help and we will be working together to possibly get this up
and running. We can discuss this at the board meeting also.
I also renewed our domain for two years as it was due before the meeting. Total
cost was $58.32 as mentioned in a previous email thread. I will bring the
receipt to the meeting. I have attached a copy to this email
